Despite you obvious tongue-in-cheek post, many public radio stations do
what you're referring to with AudioVault (and probably other automation
systems as well). I know AV probably isn't the best system for on-the-spot
delayed playback as it takes some work to set it up, but it can be
done. WBUR used to delay the BBC top-of-the-hour news by 60 seconds for
the network feed of the Connection when it was still on PRI, because NPR
didn't want them using the NPR news (a few stations airing the Connection
via PRI weren't also paying for/airing the NPR news, so they would've
gotten the NPR news for free).
