I have now found last week's NERW warning of WRKO's plans to do its
one-day music programming on July 4. If they do the same sort of pathetic
thing they did last year, it will literally be a sad day for radio. Maybe
we could stop it by getting BMI and ASCAP to revoke their licenses on the
grounds of crimes against humanity.
At the same time, I recommend rolling tape. It was so bad last
year, it just about defied description, so tape is the only way to go.
Also, no one will believe you in the future, so you'll need to play the
tape to prove it really was that bad. And, as time helps alleviate even the
most horrible of memories, you, too, will forget the true horribleness of
it and will need to play the tapes to remember just how awful it was. Stock
up now on those cassettes. Of course, you'll also want to have a second
radio available so you can listen to some other station. I want to make it
clear that while I suggest taping this, due to its historical interest, I
am in no way promoting the idea that anyone actually listen to it.
