i know that being a Cantab-living-in-exile, the A&E portion ALWAYS ended with 
more fireworks yet to come; they moved on at 10:30pm to the their next event, 
credits rolling over a few last-gasp broadcast shots, so i would say that the 
fireworks have, at least in the past few years, begun after 10pm.  the previous 
two years, i brought the kids in to the river for the show, as we were in the 
area.

and the "first time" statement might have been aimed at the non-cable/cable 
combined audience.  such as when promos are worded "1st time on broadcast 
television" or "1st time on network tv."

was the entire fireworks program telecast on Channel 4/CBS?  (morning shifts in 
radio preclude some late night events)
