Re: Fwd: MEDIA BLITZ BY JOHN MOLORI, 5/13/03

I don't know anything about the economics of the Sox radio network, but if
the Sox go to WBZ, the number of affiliates will certainly drop
significantly. That certainly happened with the Bruins, though I admit the
comparison is apples and oranges. The Bruins amount to niche programming.
The Sox are a religion.

Are most of the Sox advertisers targeting the Boston metro primarily? If
so, being on WBZ and fewer affiliates will benefit them. If they are trying
to reach a broader regional audience, I think the advertisers are better off
with a strong network of stations promoting the product. I know WBZ covers
all the areas where affiliates would be dropped, but it is better for the
Sox to be on local stations and on several spots on the dial, instead of on
WBZ and fewer affiliates.
