As a musician, I was never keen on the use of songs in advertising. I don't
particularly mind if bands write songs for ads, similar to what Master
Cylinder and The Apples in Stereo did for Volkswagen, but using a "hit" has
always struck me as disappointing. However, VW was paid $50,000 for both
those songs and I look at that, as well as the very short shelf life for
most musical artists these days, and say, "What the hell?" Right now, I
would sell any of my songs or write new songs for a hell of a lot less than
$50k! Hah!
