Fwd: Pop Instrumentals

 I make an audio tape of "On The Media" from NHPR, while listening to  LTAR;
I haven't played it back yet, but the segment you just described was on
"On the Media" earlier this year. This isn't the first segment to be
repeated...they recently ran a fine piece on people, who upon being chased and
arrested or otherwise behaving badly, sign waivers to allow their antics to be
shown on TV, and this was a repeat too. Late fall into the holiday season
must be the periods when they go into reruns. Strange, CNN's "Reliable Sources"
and Fox's "News Watch", although half-hour shows, plus Emily Rooney's "Beat the Press" on channel 2 find plenty of subject matter!

WNYC's (NPR) "On The Media" has a fun feature this
week on the
disappearance of instrumentals from pop-music radio.
From
"Tequila" to "Telstar", these songs were a staple of
the surf era, and
the category survived into the disco era ("TSOP") but
what was the last
instrumental to break through as a hit? "Music Box
Dancer"?
