RE: WJIB-AM Get Some Competition
WLYN began AM stereo a couple of months ago during the temporary WUMB
simulcast. It switches to mono when they go to their night power of
something like 70 watts.
WLYN makes the third signal still currently in AM stereo in greater Boston,
along with WJIB and WILD. All are AM stereo (on in WILD's case, on the air
at all) in the daytime only. There is currently no local AM stereo signal
around greater Boston at night.
During the WUMB simulcasts, WLYN was running an automated legal ID saying
"Multicultural Radio, WLYN Lynn". It didn't mention stereo. I haven't heard
the new one.
Some other frequencies that could be heard around Boston (daytime) that
used to be AM stereo but no longer are include 550 (as WICE Providence),
790 (as WLKW Providence), 830 (WCRN Worcester), 1030 (WBZ), 1060 (as WJLT
Framingham), 1150 (as WMEX), 1310 (WORC-AM Worcester), 1330 (WRCA), 1470
(WSRO Marlborough), and 1510 (as WSSH-AM, WNRB).
