I keep in touch with Chris's crew as often as I can, but what I'm
postulating here should NOT be interpreted as "the real reason" - but I
think while Chris had fun being back on the air at WTKK, the commercial
radio environment was not to his taste. With nearly 20 minutes of
commercials every hour, I can't say I blame him. Plus I'm told he's
enjoying the current project through Transom.org/WCAI/WNAN/WGBH/Harvard
University that's got his zipping all over the world doing radio reports
from Ghana and whatnot.
One of Chris's producers, Ben Walker, does a regular show called "Your
Radio Night-Light" (www.yourlight.org) on WZBC Sunday nights at 10pm. It's
a great show if you dig the "format-free" approach to radio...think Ira
Glass's "This American Life" but somewhat more "underground". Anyways,
Ben is, shall we say, not fond of Jay Severin and occasionally takes some
really amusing swipes at Jay via the YRNL alter-ego "Ray Leverin". This
Sunday's show is one example, it'll probably be in archive on the above URL
in a week or two. Plus there's an old show listed at
http://www.transom.org/shows/2002/200201.shows.walker.nightlight.html
