"This Is A Rewind of the Jay Severin Show" Ted Baxter Call Your Office

I think it was about a year-and-a-half ago that after Chris
Lydon (he of the TIAA-CREF commercials and Opera Aperta Board
of Directors) was ****canned by WBUR that he sat in as
the vacation substitute for for Jay Severin on WTKK-FM.
During that run, WTKK experienced a notable uptick in the ratings
and there was talk about his getting a regular gig at the
under-performaing FM yakker. That didn't happen , but Jay
Severin went on vacation again, and one would assume that
Chris would be invited back as fill-in host. Instead,
Jay's occasional producer and one-time WCCM-AM "personality"
Jimmy Carter was heard instead, along with washed-up "5-On-5" reject Avi Nelson. I thought that was unusual:
replacing your regulat host with personnel who would likely get significantly lower numbers when an individual
who could maintain if not INCREASE the ratings in the
time period is waiting in the wings and is NO DOUBT AVAILABLE!
Then I remembered an episode from the fabled "Mary Tyler Moore"
show, wherein Mary Richards tells Ted Baxter that he had
accumulated too much unused vacation time and had to take
a couple of weeks off. Ted begs Mary NOT to make him go
on vacation because the subsitute would undoubtedly be
better than Ted, and the white-maned-one would be let go.
Does this sound like the scenario at WTKK? Has Jay insisted
that no one who could do the job better than he himself
should occupy the 3:00-to-7:00 pm seat while he's away
(perhaps visiting Massachusetts)?
TO make matter worse, this past week, while he's on vaca,
WTKK has been airing tapes of old shows, with the message
"This is a rewind of the Jay Severin Show...no phone calls
please". Is this a sign of belt-tightening at (no-so)
Greater Media? This is indeed the cheap way out.
