Re: Boston spring 2002 Arbitrends-- two questions

Someone on Radio-Info posted 25-54 numbers for Boston awhile back.
According to those figures, WTKK got a 2.4 and WRKO got a 2.5 in that
demographic. If those numbers are accurate, it seems that the two
stations are pretty competitive in the "money demo." If that's the
case, I think that WTKK is doing just fine. WRKO's 12+ numbers are
padded by it's big 55+ listenership. That's okay if Entercom is
successfully selling that demo, but if the recent programming changes
there are any indication, I don't think they are.

Most stations don't use 12+ numbers as a guage anymore to judge
performance, but I'm guessing the folks at WWZN have some concerns.
Considering the money they've just payed out for the Celtics rights and
to bring in the McDonough's and Andleman, they were probably hoping to
move the needle a little bit more than they have. It does take awhile
to launch a talk station, and it's signal will limit how well WWZN will
ever do, but my guess is if they haven't made it to a one share by this
time next year, the winds of change will once again blow through 1510.
