True, but where V66 excelled was by bringing exposure to a lot of local
bands, to an audience (specifically me & the rest of my 14/15/16 year
old suburban friends) who wouldn't normally be exposed to them, because
either we didn't listen to college radio, or we were too young to go to
clubs, or both. I remember seeing O Positive do a remote with V66 at
some mall... Dave Herlihy looking very amused about the whole thing.
That's one band-- also New Man, Digney Fignus, uh.. a band I can't
remember the name of, but the video was black & white, sort of a rip off
of "A Hard Day's Night", and the song was "Many Thanks to You". I have a
lot of vinyl still laying around that can be directly traced back to
having seen these bands on V66. That made up for the lamer aspects, like
the video they made for "Raspberry Beret" by Prince, which mostly
consisted tight macro shots of the cover art and the album spinning on a
turntable... I think that was due to the MTV exclusivity, actually.

I think I still have a V66 bumpersticker somewhere, too.
