Re: RE:FMand AM legal IDs(was: WJPZ-FM Syracuse)

But unless you mistyped, that's where this whole thread began. I maintain
that, because the FCC was _so_ particular in those days about the wording of
legal IDs, and because the FCC regs have never allowed any words between the
calls and the COL--other than the frequency, channel number (yes; FMs _do_
have channel numbers--from 201 to 300), and/or owner's name, stations that
IDed as W<xxx> AM and FM <City> or W<xxx> and W<xxx>-FM <City> _must_ have
gotten some sort of permission to do so. In the 60s, when AM/FM simulcasts
were the vogue, too many large stations in large markets were using such
"legals" to have escaped the Commission's (then) watchful eye. If there was
no change in the official rules, maybe some station received a ruling by
letter, and when word got out, hundreds more stations followed suit. As the
first posting in the thread mentioned, WQXR did it and so did such stations
as WABC (both the WABC that is now WCBS and the second WABC, which is still
WABC--an the AM side anyway).
