Re: WKCI

Studios were in the northern part of Hamden years ago - I recall the
building being not too far west of I-91, in the northeastern part of the
city. ("West" and "northeastern" seem to me to be a bit confusing so I won't
attempt to explain it...just take my word for it....<g>.) This was around
1976 or so.

I'm not up to speed with the Connecticut scene as there have been so many
changes in 22 years. I do remember Radio Towers Park as where AMer WELI 960
was located. We did the radio dramas there in '76-'77, so I spent many
weekends in their production room. With all that has gone on, WAVZ could
well be co-located there.
The station was at 152(?) Temple Street for some years. I think 'KCI might -
MIGHT - have been there for a brief time when it first went on the air.

The Temple Street location is also where now silent WQQW, Waterbury, had an
office in the late 30's-early 40's until ???. That was originally
high-fidelity W1XBS, s/on appr. June 1934, studios in the former bank
building at 136 Grand Street. The transmitter was originally on the New
Haven-Prospect Road. Building and tower still there as of 1985. The New
Haven address was a business office and may have been also a remote studio
site. Whether WAVZ occupied the same space as W1XBS/WBRY/WTBY/WQQW is not
clear but the addresses were the same.

The above information came from various persons who either worked for or
were involved with the afore-mentioned stations, or who worked in the
Waterbury and New Haven markets.
