1000m, That's over 3000 feet.  I think you mean they're at 1000 feet. 
Elving's FM Atlas lists them at 305 meters, that sounds about right. 
And at that height, 7200 watts is a good signal, esp if they are 
using circular polarization.  If they are horizontal only, that would 
account for poor reception on car radios.  But, from my perspective, 
I have not had reason to complain about their signal.
