Most new technologies when they come out are extremely expensive.  DTV isn't
mandatory until 2006, that's plenty of time for the prices to go down to a
reasonable level.  When CD players were first introduced in 1983, they cost
$1000 -- needless to say, that's a decent chunk of change, especially given
the value of the dollar almost 20 years ago.
