You have to compare the audience size for these events, first.
Boston ranks at the bottom of TV viewing amongst the majors to
begin with. That might have a lot to do with Boston being the
smartest city and the least TV-friendly market in the country(in
top 3 in magazine/newspaper/book reading). So it's not really fair
to say that Boston doesn't watch national sporting events which
don't involve Boston teams(NCAA games on ch.4 outrated Bruins,
Celtics and Sox last weekend).
