Re: A group of towers in Waltham

Back in the "old days" of Channel 9....if we ever lost ABC service and
called long lines..the excuse was always "signal lost at Bear Hill"

Channels 8 and 22 used another method to have ABC delivered.....I was never
able to find out if they simply didn't trust WMUR to handle the relay or it
was cost, but the loop went like this.

ATT delivered network signal to WIHS-WSBK on Granby Street, where it was
then microwaved to the Pru...relayed to Saddleback Mountain in NH ( near
Channel 11 ), and then to Mt Washington and then Mt Mansfield.

Meanwhile for us back at 1819 Elm Street we took WNAC and later WCVB off air
on a Conrac tuner plugged into the old United Cable maybe 25% of the time as
the microwave link was that bad.

(side note)

WMUR may have been the first station to use a "bug" during programming as on
weekends the GM's son would drive around places like Keene and Brattleboro
to make sure WMUR was being picked up by cable systems.
