Re: AM (was Re: LPFM Rules)



I agree.  My dad, who is 60, lives in Connecticut and while he listens to
WTIC-AM on occasion for the weather, its a lot less than he used to.  Once Bob
Steele retired, his AM listening went way down.  These days he bounces between
WRCH and WNLC-FM.

We have talked in the past on this list about standards and talk moving to
FM.  It's the future, so get used to it.  As younger listeners defect to the
internet and satellite radio in the next few years, the FM band will begin to
cater to older listeners, who don't wish to chase the new technologies.
Mainstream AC's already sit at the top of the ratings in many markets, and
oldies stations do well also.  Add talk and standards to FM and older people
will have no reason to listen to AM (unless they speak Spanish...)
