Sounds like the old WJUL (91.5 Lowell) set-up.  They then had two
Scully bench mounts side-by-side in Master.  (The types you could
drive over with a tank and it'd still salute you at 15 ips....)  RR1
would hold the full reel, RR2 the take-up.  RR1 would record an aux
split, RR2 would be PB to pgm.  The distance between the heads of
the two decks at 7.5 ips?  You guessed it, 7 seconds.  Besides, the
reel served as an archive when it was done.  To dump delay was not
automatic, requiring good ears on the tech, ready with both sources
of audio to make it (not) go.
