I heartily agree; this opens the door to more decimation of FM band
interference protection. 80-90 has already done untold damage to FM broadcast,
to say nothing of abominations like WMPG's translator on WBCN's
frequency. Why the FCC didn't allocate these new services to Channel 6 is
entirely beyond me.

Tell me about it! The FCC has consistently turned its back on blatant
technical violations on the part of licensed commercial and noncommercial
broadcasters; who's to say what the "glorified translators" will get away with?
Let's face it: the FCC is less about enforcing rules than about auctioning off
spectrum to the highest bidder.
Take care,
Chris
