Shotgun Johnny Ringo (WPTR)

Hello all.
Just wanted to mention one of my favorite childhood radio
listening memories...listening to "Shotgun Johnny Ringo" on
the old WPTR! I grew up in Swampscott MA and used to always listen
to a very strong sounding WPTR with this screaming (no really,
screaming) DJ. He used to always instruct his callers calling
in from Schenectady to say "Schenectady Bssssshhhh." I always
assumed it was due to the Nuke plant being in the area. It was
quite interesting to hear him shouting at the top of his lungs
"WHATS YOUR FAVORITE RADIO STATION" "WPTR" "WHAT" WPTR" WHAT"
"WPTR" WHHHAAATTTT" Seriously, this has quite an effect on a
12 year old radio buff, and hearing all that screaming with
that upper end of the AM radio band propagation phasing..
It was one of my favorite skywave signals to look forward to
at night. Glad the call sign and music is back!
Also, it seemed to me when the station was WDCD, the modulation level
was always very low. I remember hearing 1540 at our Littleton
NH area cabin growing up and they were the most powerful signal
on the dial during the Rock years, but hearing the WDCD sound,
even though the signal seemed to be ok, was much weaker with
hash behind it. It may be my imagination, but it seems to be
louder again. Haven't heard it in Northern NH, but am heading
up to ski this weekend and will check it out.

Best Regards!
