Re: WBOS
Or, even better, an "alternative gold" format. This format is just starting to emerge, with
stations in Detroit, Minneapolis and San Jose currently trying it. Boston has a history of
embracing new wave and pre-grunge modern rock (WBCN and WFNX in the 80's), and with the amount
of college-educated 30 and 40 somethings driving around in Land Rovers around here, it could
work. Some of the core artists would be U2, REM, The Smiths, The Cure, Pretenders, Blondie,
David Bowie, The Cars, etc.
There are a lot of men my age (mid-30's) that don't listen to the radio anymore since few
formats are catered to them. WAAF and WBCN skew young, WZLX and WROR skew old, and most would
rather not listen to talk radio. A station that would target men (and some women too) in the
middle of the "money demo" that are entering the prime money-making portion of their lives
would seem to make a lot of sense.
An alternative gold format would pick up where WROR leaves off musically, but would be
different from WZLX. It wouldn't conflict with Greater Media's other properties, but would
still target adult demographics, which is the goal of all the GM properties in town.
