Yes, that was my voice in "A Civil Action". Didn't know about it until a
call from a producer/friend on West Coast, and I first saw/heard it when
viewing the flick. Nothing paid to me for it...don't care anyway. Don't
know if BZ gets some type of payment.
I seem to recall Shields mentioning appearance in Texas flick.
Thanks for comment re Glick appearances. Was fun. He is great guy! Have
heard rumors of Larry coming back to Boston radio...either in studio or via
remote feeds from Florida. Yes, called me Ludvig Carl Krause von
Schwoegler. Got mail from as far away as Sweden. Radio and relationship to
BZ TV was fun back then. Big changes since, and following sums up why you
rarely hear BZ TV weather on BZ radio.
Don Kent was fired from BZ radio AM shift to bring in AccuWeather. Don was
always the AM guy at radio AND TV. Feel that he became a legend more
because of radio rather than TV...but they dumped him because Accu came in
with 7 day/24 hour contract for $10k per year. Bottom line killed him and
two months later, killed my spots on PM radio shift as Accu demanded entire
schedule. That was start of no crossover from TV to radio for us. Very
stupid decision which I tried to talk them out of to no avail. We made low
$ for radio....so the cash was not a big deal. THE CROSS PROMOTION
WAS...AND THEY BLEW IT!
Only recently have we gone back on radio from the TV side....FOR FREE. Accu
supposedly pulls down over $100k for their service now. Laced with "if",
"chance of", "maybe", and numerous generalizations, the Accu forecast leaves
much to be desired not to mention a view out a Boston window. Comes from a
bunch of grad students at Penn State who started out of a church basement.
Accu has grown big time and services all types of clients.
Their game is bottom line the local weathercaster out....or feed Accu
scripts to bogus "meteorologists"...and take over the broadcasts. Then
escalate contract $.
However, when chips are down, local newsies come running to us to give them
weather that has some meaning. IMO, it's insulting that they pay Accu big $
and
then run to us for freebies, an admission that Accu is not hacking it.
We might not have time to do it anyway...especially in AM drive. There are
more TV weather hits in one day
than Don did in almost a week.
Hope that answers most questions.
Bruce
