Re: WZMX adds "Jammin' Oldies" titles....

They could be trying to distance themselves from classic rocker
WHCN. Both stations were in a virtual tie during the Fall period.
WZMX's owners(Infinity/CBS) could be thinking "Jammin Oldies" for
the future. The format is definitely getting hot right now.

I do like the new WTMJ(former WBIX)/NYC but the playlist(between 1965
and
1980) is not as deep as I would like. It is presenting music by mostly
black artists, focusing on funk, Motown, soul, disco and rhythm and
blues mostly from the 60's
and 70's, along with a few 80's song. Unlike WRKS-FM(Classic SOul/Gold
R+B),
WTMJ like many other Jammin' Oldies around the country plays mostly
"crossover" hits. During a regular hour on WTMJ 105.1FM you can hear
the following :

EARTH WIND & FIRE -- "Shining Star"
THE FOUR TOPS -- "Reach Out, I'll Be There"
MARVIN GAYE -- "Let's Get It On"
AL GREEN -- "Let's Stay Together"
ISLEY BROTHERS -- "It's Your Thing"
THE JACKSONS -- "Shake Your Body"
K.C. & THE SUNSHINE BAND -- "That's the Way I Like It"
STEVIE WONDER -- "Signed Sealed, Delivered"
THE TEMPTATIONS -- "Get Ready"
ARETHA FRANKLIN -- "Respect"
GLORIA GAYNOR -- "I WILL SURVIVE"

I don't know if anyone in Boston would be willing to jump on the
format :
CBS -- #1 biller here. Why rock the boat?! Enough said. Entercom --
while Bruce Mittman runs the show on the FM side, they will stay with
lots of rock
and personality jocks. Chancellor -- will not touch Kiss or Jamn; needs
to acquire another FM signal here but no one's selling and
no-longer-on-the-
block Chancellor isn't buying anymore to control its out-of-control
debt;
Greater Media -- WROR would make a good fit but they seem to be going
straight at
WODS-FM right now; WSJZ complements WMJX; WKLB is turning into a
fantastic
country station. WBOS? Desperately trying to carve out a niche
audience of younger, hipper baby boomer women who seem to care about
sports and environment(Richard Belzer's(Munch on "Homicide") line
comes to mind : "yeh, yeh, right..").
