Here is some of what I have in my files about the history of WMEX, which=
does
descend from the now defunct WLOE (taken off the air by the FRC in December=
of
1933). Note-- this is only up through 1997, and I am missing some dates. =

1510 kHz - 50 kW, DA-2
Call Letter Sequence: WMEX - WITS - WMRE - WSSH - WKKU - WSSH - WNRB
WITS =3D "Weather, Information, Talk, Sports"
WMRE=3D "memory"
WNRB=3D "National Religious Broadcasters"

(contrary to rumour, WMEX stood for nothing-- it was an assigned call=
letter)
Facility History:=20
First Licensed: December 4, 1934 (on air 18 October 1934!)
Originally at 1500 kHz, 250/100 W at Chelsea, MA=20

3/17/36: Facility moved to Boston, MA.
11/20/39: Power increased to 250 W.
9/26/40: Moved to 1470 kHz at 5 kW, DA-1.
3/29/41: Moved to 1510 kHz .
6/24/57: Calls changed to WGRO.
6/25/57: Calls changed to WMEX.
2/13/70: Power increased to 50/5 kW, DA-2. RCA-50H1 installed.
5/24/77: Harris MW-5 installed.
4/19/78: Calls changed to WITS
11// 80 Xmitter moved to Waltham, power increased to 50 kW, DA

1/22/ 87 Went dark. =
