Aren't you talking about WPTR(AM) 1540?  As far as I know, they were
news/talk (with alot of sports, yes) up until the change to the calls now
on 1540, WDCD (Religon).

WGNA is a well programmed station with a heritage reputation.  pretty
tough to be with any Class A signal.
