RE: Albany, N.Y. gets more urban

Quite Interesting news!

I can remember WPTR being a sports station a bit more than a few years
back.. They carried the Arena Football League Albany Firebirds, University
at Albany basketball, and Albany River Rats American Hockey League action
over their airwaves. I was quite sad to see their demise carrying the sports
format. Does anyone know what ever happened to the religious format? In
terms of ownership.

I think WGNA could deserve a good run for their money - there is a station
down the dial around 96 on the radio calling themselves "CD Country" I
always thought they would give GNA a good battle - does anyone know how well
they do in the market? Their signal is not very strong throughout the
region, unlike the powerhouse signal of WGNA.

Since WPTR is now Urban I wonder how much competition they will give WFLY
(FLY 92)???

I guess time will tell.

That's quite a history of the station. Are they still owned
by Brian
Jackson? i thought he played a part in the only other
station that I
recall ever trying an urban format... in the early '80's,
WOKO briefly

My history with the format in Albany was that people were
afraid to try
it as they feared problems selling it to advertisers. Any
buzz about
		that?
