"Radiothon"? Now there's an interesting word formation. Seems to me those
things used to be called "Marathons." I remember hearing a March of Dimes
Marathon on WOKO in Albany back in 1956. When television came along, they
made up the word "telethon." I'd heard that word back in 1956 because of
an episode in which Superman appeared on a Daily Planet sponsored telethon
(I wonder if the newspaper's competitor's ever complained about Superman's
cozy relationship with the Planet.).

Anyway, back in 1956, it was clear enough that if it was on TV it was a
"telethon" and if it was on radio, it was a "marathon." Now, the ubiquity
of television has resulted in the word "radiothon."
