One of those very wierd moments in radio...The morning guy, Kevin Dunn,
became extremely ill during a spot break and was unable to continue. In
some of the confusion, they went for the west coast feed (they carry the
east coast feed 5-6 a.m.) Just to get them through the hour. I was able to
arrive by 8:10 and help out til 9. You would be accurate if you now believe
there is a better contingency plan in place.... Dunn is feeling much better
today......
BTW, The Annual "WCAP Salvation Army Christmas Cheer Radiothon" (long-time
annual event) will have raised upwards of $16,000 this season after the
pledges are all counted today. The event was broadcast live over two days,
Tuesday the 15th from 6-9 a.m. and this morning, 12/19 from 6-noon. Most
of the money was in small denominations from local listeners, callers, and
donations from many local politicos who dropped some money at the studios
this morning. Not bad for a local signal (5 kW) focused on a very local ADI
in a less than affluent demo. You likely will not read too much about it in
the local press, so you did read it here first!
