As I mentioned earlier, WMEX went on the air with those calls in the late
fall of 1934-- Mid-October, as I recall. As for WLOE, it WAS a requested
call, and was supposed to be part of a chain of stations owned by the Loews
Theatres. The plans never came to fruition and were part of the reason why
WLOE ultimately lost their license-- Mr Pote kind of forgot to tell the FRC
his backers had pulled out and he had moved from Chelsea to Boston...
details, details... the station was taken off the air after over 4 years of
appeals and counter-appeals, in 1933.
