audience who is listening, shouldn't have to know about the 'sales
efforts' of the station....They just want to hear the programming.....

I disagree. I think the fact that a radio station uses it's own radio
station to advertise for sales people shows that the station believes in
itself as an advertising vehicle. Newspapers advertise to hire people in the
newspaper, why shouldn't radio advertise for people on radio? I always
thought it was weird when a radio station would use the competition
(newspaper) to adverise. What does that say about your product? I think by
advertising for people on your station, you will probably attract people who
listen to the station and like the product. That's always a plus when trying
to sell.
As for your final comment, people hear ads all the time. It is obvoius that
any commercial station (other than WJIB) is supported by commercial sales.
An ad for sales people doesn't break up the programming any more than any
other ad.
As for people beating down the door to work for a station. This might be the
case in some situations, but it is hard to find goo sales people. Also, in
good economic times, like now, it is hard to find people.
