All of the AM's I work with have much greater ranges than their 
translators. Take, for example, Alex Langer's WSRO 650 AM. I was listening 
to it in Lebanon, NH this morning. The FM translator is 40 watts, and 
covers just Framingham and the immedtarely surrounding towns. Alex has a 
CP to move it to Waltham and give it a modest power increase, but it will 
never match even WSRO's nighttime coverage.
