Gene Jones indeed did Community Auditions. Before CA Dave hosted a record hop on channel 4 in the 50's that was done live from the Totem Pole at Norumbega Park in Newton. That had to be 1957 as it came on before Red Sox games and drove my Dad nuts - channel 5 took over the Sox in 58.
