Simple answer - better sound quality and coverage.  Frequently I'll be
listening to a talk program that's also covered by terrestrial radio in the
market that I'm in.  The sound quality of the signal on XM is much cleaner
that what I'm picking up from AMxxxx.  I'm also subject to cleaner dropouts
(no buzz or fade, just no signal)and less interference from other sources.
