neradio.org said that WMRE began playing big band music in the early 80s; I'm pretty sure they were talk from about 1985 to 1987. My aircheck of Morgan White's last "Talking Trivia" on WMRE 1510 is
dated Jan. 1987 and I think the station went "dark" the last week of
that month, re-emerging as WSSH (AM) a couple months later as a simulcast of WSSH-FM 99.5 (beautiful music). I don't know exactly when Noble changed them to WKKU and country, though. Maybe '88 or
'89?
