Dick Johnson, Hall of Fame !!!

this evening up in "Bah Hah-bah," the Maine Association of Broadcasters is
paying homage to its best & brightest. the link below will take you to the
news and creative awards recipients. not listed is the inclusion into the
Maine Association of Broadcasters "Hall of Fame" of Dick Johnson.
For those who don't know Mr.Johnson, the redundancy is one of a natural
occurence. ;-) (if you don't know what i mean by that, email me off-list)
Dick has been in broadcasting for more than 40 years (43, i think), and
has done it all... jock, news, sports, tv and then some. he's a quite the
character and is a survivor, plus he's a heckuva guy!

my favorite Dick Johnson story is one that was told at one of the Guy
Gannett Broadcasting holiday parties. Dick and Frank Fixaris were
20-something jocks doing the ever long 5 hour Saturday afternoon shifts at
cross-town stations, but both were friends. they told of how they spent the
entire shift on the phone with each other and played, song for song, the
identical set for the day. if one's commercial break was longer, the other
simply vamped until it was time to play a song. any "button pushing" that
day brought out 5 hours of "dj vu."
Dickie Do: Congratulations! well deserved; well earned!
