I just heard that myself, via New England Cable News
(was at a sub shop and they had TV on). According to
the Red Sox site, Coleman was 78 and had
also been the voice of the Cleveland Indians and
Cleveland Browns (I used
to have a book by him called "So You Want to Be A
Sportscaster" and it
mentioned that as well). His on-air partners for Red
Sox games included
Mel Parnell, Ned Martin (who died last year right
after attending a
memorial for Ted Williams), and Joe Castigolione.
After Ken retired
in 1989, he was replaced first by Bob Starr, and then
Jerry Trupiano.
I think Ken also did B.U. football (right before that
athletic program
was discontinued) on WBUR.
Coleman was a Quincy native and one of the founders of
the BoSox club; he also
did work for the Jimmy Fund.
"...and he dives and makes a TREMENDOUS CATCH!!"
RIP, Ken. Hopefully the Sox will have their players
wear a patch (with
his initials) on their uniforms.
