Its been a fun 3 weeks. Ok, so the studio's in the dank basement of the
student activity building without a/c. This weekend was only about 100 down
there and the CD decks didn't like tracking too much (nothing like having a
CD cued and when you punch it up the deck suddenly decides "NO DISK" and
nothing happens). A program clock that calls for you to play a donorship
spot that doesn't exist (of the four on my sheet, only two existed). Cart
machine lotto - did the last jock let the cart cue before he took it out?
Will the cart cue? Guessing which channel the previous jock left in "CUE"
to kill your headphone feed - this week it was TT1 & interview mike - 1/2
the indicator lights on the board are blown. I especially enjoyed coming
out of a smooth set to a promo for "Bonzai Radio" which consists mainly of a
very stressed sounding host screaming "I'm not Mel Gibson" repeatedly.

Seriously, I had a blast. Working live is a bit different from production
work and I enjoyed the challenge. It was more difficult than I thought to
program 168 minutes (56mins/hour - eat your heart out Magic listeners!) of
music in format by different artists each week. I quickly learned to keep a
song on standby in cart 3 in case the CD decks didn't cooperate. I'm
looking forward to doing it all again when my rotation comes up in August.

What really broke my heart during the time was the apparent total lack of
interest that the school and the students have for this radio station.
There doesn't seem to be any support or oversight to its operation. Granted
that this signal has a very limited range but it still could be a very
viable college station if there was support.
