Re: new logo for ch. 4?
The "Westinghouse font" logo just disappeared from KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh;
KPIX in San Francisco hasn't used it in at least
five years, though their current logo is similar to the Westinghouse look.
KYW-TV in Philadelphia dropped theirs within the last
year. That leaves WJZ as the last Westinghouse-logo TV station from the
group, though WINS, KDKA and KYW continue
to use the font on radio (as does WOWO in Fort Wayne, at least in
bastardized form, even though Westinghouse sold the
station 21 years ago and it's on its second owner since then.)
As for WBZ, the Westinghouse font was last used in 1996, when "News 4 New
England" was launched. That didn't last long, and
in 1997 the "Circle 4 Ranch" logo - which is NOT the Westinghouse font -
was launched.
WBZ radio switched from the Westinghouse font to the current (rather
nondescript IMHO) look sometime in late 1995 or
early 1996; I have the old "WBZ NewsRadio 1030" sign from Studio B hanging
on the wall of my office. I know the current
logo was in use by the fall of 1996, when the 75th anniversary festivities
took place.
