As a followup - yesterday (Thursday) the WGBH transmitter was repeatedly 
off the air for several minutes at a stretch.  After one such outage the DJ 
mentioned that they were having power problems at the transmitter - 
probably brownouts or something due to drain on the grid thanks to the heat.
