I don't think it was a "News 4 New England" debacle.   Their rating slide
occurred just as they lost their NBC affiliation (Can you say 'must see
TV'?) and traded it for a CBS affiliation (Can you say Grecian Formula?)

This made it clear just how necessary the lead-in, affiliation and leaving
the channel on...is important to TV news.

BTW..Ch 7's perennial last place newscast did grow when Sunbeam bought
them...but it really took off when the network affiliation changed.
