Re: Newton residents kick up fuss about 'WNUR' site expansion proposal

What the whole debate fails to deal with is that the Oak Hill location just
isn't very good as far as soil conductivity goes. Between that problem and the
FCC requirements for "ratcheting" down interference whenver an AM makes even a
minor change (of course, "minor" changes, can now be quite major--as this one
is), WRCA in particular is going to wish that it never thought of this move.
Mainly, what WRCA will have to show for big engineering and construction bills
is higher power bills--in perpetuity. WRCA does great from its South St site
with its two towers top loaded to the equivalent of something like 163 degrees.
They will be losing coverage in the northwestern suburbs that they will never
be able to get back, and I maintain that the signal improvment in the
Roxbury/Dorchester area won't be terribly impressive. Beasley management has a
reputation for not being the brightest bulbs in the circuit and this adventure
certainly lends credence to that assertion.
