Officemax and Staples are also good sources of inexpensive CD writers. I
just got a honking fast burner (it can do 52x, but my discs can only handle
24x...still fast enough to fill a disc in less than 5 minutes) from
Officemax for $60 from the clearance rack.
Exterior USB 2.0 burners are frequently only $120 to $150...worth it in my
book if you have any sort of mobile computing or multiple computers. It'll
work on older (1.1) USB as well, although the burning speed is usually
limited to 4x on 1.1....2.0 burners can burn as fast as internal burners,
and USB 2.0 cards for your desktop are about $30 or less.
