New Scam? (On WBZ Yet)
Today (03/23) during the Noon news wheel, WBZ-AM ran a get-rich-spot
for a scheme to install pre-paid cellular phone card machines at retail outlets.
People who called the 800-number would get get exclusive territories to install
swipers (a la credit-card swipers that is)at local stores or malls...
then all they had to do was sit around and wait for the dough to flow in! In years past, schemes like this but for private coin-operated phones
or vending machines were frequently aired on numerous radio stations.
I don't see this stuff in newspapers (ok I haven't perused The Herald
lately, just some columns and music reviews)but it appears that purveyors
of this stuff immediately call the sales departments of radio stations
in the markets they want to reach. At some future date, an expose
of this operation will appear on some TV magazine show like "60 Minutes"
aired on the very network that owns WBZ...but no mention will be made
of the fact that an O&O promoted the scheme!
