Re: WBOQ and the "martini format" (BRW)



WVCA was a legally licensed operation.  Geller's FCC trouble was instead
perhaps related to lack of news, public affairs, etc, and/or some other
thing FCC did not like about his one-man operation.  Ironically, today's
FCC would seemingly WELCOME all that?

KLAC really plays up the "lounge" and "Rat Pack" angles, including ads
that look suspiciously like old billboards for Las Vegas.  An added touch,
the early-afternoon DJ is Gary "Beautiful Downtown Burbank" Owens.  WBOQ
is similar, but not exactly alike...they have more jazz and instrumentals,
for instance.  I like them both though, and thanks to a certain North
Shore resident I get WBOQ tapes fairly often.
