More Boston dead-air party
Starting a few weeks ago, WBPS 890 displaced a bunch of syndicated shows, which
it was getting as tradeouts, to carry eight hours daily of paid programming
from Sports Terminal Radio Network, which called itself America's newest sports-
talk network. STRN's material, much--if not all--of which had been recorded
earlier in the day, aired from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM M-F interrupted only by IDs
and the TOH news feed from USA Radio Network.
Well, after--I would say--at most, two weeks of STRN, WBPS, for the last week
or so, has been back to dead air from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM M-F, except for the
aforementioned IDs and news feed. Unless the cause is yet another technical
glitch (of which WBPS has been afflicted with many), and the programming makes
a quick return, this has to have been one of the shortest runs of a new format
in Boston radio history.
When I first pointed out that WBPS was carrying this programming, I joked about
the use of the word "terminal" in the network name. Hmmm... Was STRN already
terminally ill when it struck its deal with the outfit that is LMAing WBPS and
reselling the time?
