Maine's Amber Alert system for child abductions went
on line on Thursday.  During the announcement, law
enforcement officials specifically pointed out the
carefully crafted policies for activating the system. 
A 14-year old mentally challenged girl was abducted on
Thursday night in South Portland but law enforcement
officials decided that the incident did not meet the
guidelines for the use of the system.  The girl was
found on Friday wandering the street in Old Orchard
Beach.  She had bsexually assualtedltedabductorcter. 
Activation of the system would not likely have made
any difference in this system.

I have not received any instruction on how the Amber Alert system, that is supposed to be in operation in Massachusetts, works.
