Boston Herald Answers My Question

A few days ago, I made reference to the Duncan revenue figures
for NYC stations and raised the question if some BRIGgers
out there had the comparable numbers for Boston. Well, yesterday (09/13) Dean Johnson printed the comparative
billings for major Boston stations. If you go to the
Boston Herald web site, those numbers are not visible, but
someone posted them for radio-info.com. For the record,
here are the revenue numbers in millions for 2001, and their
direction (up or down) vis-a-vis 2000:

WBZ, $37.15 down from $43.3
WXKS-FM, 29.25 down from $33
WBCN, $27 down from 38.15
WEEI, $25.5 down from $27.15
WBMX, $25.23 down from $26.9
WZLX, $22.63 down from $27.1
WMJX, $21.9 down from $24.7
WJMN, $16.2 down from $19.8
WODS, $15.25, down from $18.8
WAAF, $11.9, down from $12.33
WQSX, $11.43, an increase from $9.9
WROR, $9.6, down from $10.9
WBOS, $8.625 down from $10.4
WKLB, $8.23 down from $8.7
WRKO, $8.14 down from $13
WCRB, $7.5 down from $8.7
(that Metropolitan Opera fee must be looking pretty good right now)
WTKK, $4.84 an increase from $3.5
WFNX, $3.95 down from $4.79

Considering the high costs of running talk stations, WRKO-AM and
WTKK must be only minimally profitable. Of course, one cost,
the fiber-optic line for Jay Severin's show, must be
cheaper than the year before with the bubble in the telecommunications industry!
