A large chunk of the funding comes from foundations with an agenda.
The commercial underwriters are just advertisers like anyone else, but
the foundations often have a great deal of involvement in the creation
and editorial style of the program.  (See, for example, all of the
[health care | campaign finance | religion] reporting that's funded by
Pew.  This didn't come about by chance: the Pew Trusts intentionally
sook out programs which would take their money in exchange for adding
regular coverage of [health-care | campaign-finance | religious]
issues.  I don't know if Pew have any particular `slant' on any of
these topics.)
