RE: Comrex Remote System

Yep. We did the same remote, from a resort in Jamaica, using a POTS codec
from Comrex. (I think back then it was version 1 of the "Hotline")
We also had marginal success with a solid link, as the codec had to
"renegoitiate" several times. Not a good thing when you're feeding the
syndicated "Steve and DC Show" to 20 affiliates!
I've also used the newer version, the Vector...and it seems to connect
better, with fewer drops, when you use a lower bitrate.
Of course, the gold standard for a full bandwith morning show remote with
IFB and split backhaul. Is a Telos Zephyr, but IIRC, there were no ISDN
lines to be had in Jamaica.

Subject: Comrex Remote System

That station I working at is doing a live remote from
Jamaica all week long so we have been experimenting
with different methods of getting a stable link form
the Island back t the studio. One of the systems our
PD came up with is a Comrex system that works like a
modem. It actually modulates the audio into a digital
format with one box and then passes it through the
phone line to the other box where it is demodulated
back to audio and ran through the board. We have had
very bad luck with it because of the bad connections
that they have back to the mainland. Has anyone else
ever used a system like this?
